Hey everyone!

If you follow my content, you may have already seen my reel "5 Date Ideas Your Autistic Partner Will Actually Love." If you did, thank you so much for watching! This post shares those date ideas for anyone who missed it, plus a personal update on getting to talk with some of you and share my book, and a look at the content I have planned.

5 Date Ideas Your Autistic Partner Will Actually Love

Here is the full list from my reel, in case you missed it or want an easier-to-save list:

  1. Special interest date:

Plan a date around your partner's special interest and let your partner be the guide.

  • Watch a documentary on it

  • Visit a museum exhibit

  • Host a themed game night

  • Build something together

  • Learn the rules of their favorite sport (with snacks, of course!)

Being invited into the world of their special interest is a powerful form of connection.

  1. Quiet outing date:

Pick somewhere calm.

  • A shop for your partner's special interest, when it's less busy

  • A cozy cafe after peak hours

  • A botanical garden

  • A bookstore or library browse

  • A sensory-friendly movie screening

Fewer crowds, softer lighting, and less noise leave more energy for enjoying each other.

  1. Cook/Bake date:

Keep it structured and hands-on, with a shared focus instead of face-to-face pressure.

  • Pick the recipe ahead of time

  • Give each person a clear job

  • Wear aprons and chef hats

  • Decorate your finished treats

Try smiley face pancakes, heart-shaped cookies, or treats themed around your partner's special interest.

  1. Side-by-side date:

Sit together doing what you each love, even if it's two different things.

  • Reading

  • Drawing

  • Gaming

  • Crafting

Quiet companionship (bonus if it's with a shared snack!) counts as quality time.

  1. Costume movie date:

Pick a movie you both love, then dress as its characters.

  • Choose the film together ahead of time

  • Make the costumes together

  • Keep it simple with a cape, hat, or prop

  • Add themed snacks

  • Lip sync your favorite lines for extra giggles

Check in about fabrics and textures, since scratchy wigs or tight sleeves can be a sensory challenge.

Have I Tried These Dates?

I've tried every one of these dates except #5 with my partner, and we both loved them! I'm excited to try #5 soon, because it sounds so cute, fun, and giggle-inducing that I can't say no, haha.
